What's this? A beauty post? Well, I never!
As you might have already deduced (oops, watching too much Sherlock), I've decided to experiment and branch out into hair and beauty related posts. I thought I'd start with the two hair products that I honestly can never get enough of. My hair is naturally very dull and flat, with little texture or shape, so I'm forever using tools and products to try to coax it into new styles!
Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, 125ml
Bumble and Bumble is, without a doubt, my favourite brand of hair products. Though their products tend to be quite pricey (this bottle of Surf Spray is £21.50), I would argue their quality makes them worth every penny. Plus, there's a range to suit every hair type and for every desired style.
I've tried a few different brands of salt spray, but Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray takes the lead by far. For those who haven't used salt spray before, the idea is to create the effect of beachy, just-stepped-out-of-the-sea waves. While many salt sprays succeed in creating texture, they often tend to weigh my hair (which, as I mentioned, is quite fine and flat) down. Surf Spray, however, does the opposite. It actually adds volume to my hair, especially if applied to the roots. It also creates a slightly rough texture, as intended, without the stickiness that can come with other salt sprays.
As for the beachy waves? It does succeed in adding loose waves to my hair, especially if applied when my hair is wet and then left to dry naturally. However, if I'm in a rush or want to exaggerate the effect, I tend to either use a curling wand (when dry), then roughen the curls with my fingers, or leave my hair to dry in a loose plait.
I'd highly recommend Surf Spray to anyone who wants to add texture or loose waves to their hair. However, if you already tend to struggle with frizzy hair or dry hair, I imagine it may not be very helpful, as it does tend to have quite a drying effect.
Organix Moroccan Argan Oil
Just like the salt spray, there are a number of different brands with their own version of argan oil, but as far as I can tell this is one of the cheapest (just £6.99 in Boots). And it works wonders on my hair! I admit, I haven't tried any of there other brands, but why would I when this does everything I need it to?
As the bottle states, Organix Moroccan Oil aims to strengthen and soften hair. It's particularly useful if, like me, you dye your hair or use heated styling tools (straighteners, curlers etc) often, as it combats the drying and weakening effects that these processes tend to have. Since I started using this moroccan oil, I've noticed that my hair never has a problem with split ends, despite all the torture I subject it to! It is also noticeably softer and more shiny.
To apply, I simply rub a small amount between my fingertips and run it through my hair when wet, roots to ends. Not only does it sink into the hair without weighing it down, it also acts as a great de-tangler!
I hope these reviews have been useful - what do you think, should I do more posts like this? Or just stick to fashion? Let me know!

I tried Surf Spray yeaaars ago but it never really worked for me, I think it's because my hair is SO straight. Argh! This oil sounds really good, I might get one when my MoroccanOil runs out.

Ah really?! I have quiet straight hair too, and like I said I find it takes a bit of coaxing to get really good waves, but I still like the texture I get even without giving the waves a helping hand :) xx

This was such a great review! I have a salt spray from Schwarzkopf, but haven't used it that much (because I bought it at the end of summer, silly me haha). My hair is very thin and gets quite frizzy at the ends. I found that when I applied the salt spray, my hair only looked great right after applying it to my hair. But like you say, maybe I should try to only apply it to my roots to give my hair some texture. Then I can also use my spray in winter, yay :)
ReplyDeleteI have a hair oil too (not a Moroccan) and they are incredible!
